Nominations for the Second Annual Beachcomber Music Awards have been tallied by our hardworking staff and reflect the diversity of the Emerald Coast music scene. The awards presentation will be held Feb. 23 at Bluz Grill & Bar in Miramar Beach. Among the performers scheduled to appear at the event are Christy Campbell and Pat Boone, 2008 Best Female Vocalist Cheryl Jones, multiple nominees the Forrest Williams Band, and Blue Lew and the FunkTones.

The Forrest Williams Band leads the pack with a total of nine nominations, followed by 2008 Best Alternative Band winners Newfangled Theory with eight. In a repeat of the first music awards, NFT is the only group nominated in all three band categories. Derek Givans is nominated for Best Male Vocalist and Best Singer-Songwriter, and Brian Smith and Brantley Galloway are up for Best Bassist and Best Drummer, respectively. NFT's Live from the Outpost is nominated for Best "Homegrown" CD.

Forrest Williams is up for Best Male Vocalist, Best Singer-Songwriter and Best Guitarist, while bandmates Pherrel Williams (Best Female Vocalist, Best Keyboardist) and Steve Upton (Best Drummer) made the final ballot. The Forrest Williams Band is nominated for Best Band and Best Dance Band.

Among the 2008 winners nominated again for 2009-10 are Cheryl Jones (Best Female Vocalist), Black Eyed Blonde's Dan Collins (Best Bassist), Donnie Sundal (Best Keyboardist) and saxophonist Fly Dents (Best Horn Player). The nomination ballot-included here-boasts new names (Dannica Lowery, Best Female Vocalist) and longtime favorites (Bill Garrett, Ike Bartley, Mike and the Micros).

Last year's Best Drummer winner Ted Cobena was edged out by Upton, Galloway and Dread Clampitt's John Reinlee. But Cobena is nominated in the Best "Homegrown" CD category for Idea 7's Out of the Bottle, his collaboration with guitarist Butch Blasingame.

Blue Lew Productions is partnering with the Beachcomber once again to produce the live event. Lew is up for Best Singer-Songwriter for the second year. Other repeat nominees include Chief Cherry in the horn category and Black Eyed Blonde for Best Dance Band.
